Protect Your Love: Ladies Junior-Fit Tee

Feeble Attempt Design Description:

I thought it would be fun to make a sort of PSA-type design with this phrase and incorporate some of the contraceptive methods available today. Originally I was going to include other methods too but the design became too cluttered. It is great to live in a time with so many options. The IUD being “T” shaped, was perfect to incorporate into the lettering. I also wanted to make sure to represent methods of male birth control since it is a team effort. Condoms are still the main option today and the o shape within the package fit the “O” in the design. The needle/syringe is multi-representational as it can stand for the Depo shot for women or a vasectomy (which can be reversed)  for men.

Inspired by a post that kept getting shared around Facebook that said something about if you are having your period at this time you will be ovulating near/on Valentine’s day so be extra careful. I can’t remember the context, but I thought of the phrase my aunt once said “Make Love, Not Babies” and how funny I thought it was as a play on the war slogan. Looking it up, the war slogan was actually quite risque at the time as it was an update on an early 1900s message “Make Peace Not War.” It reflected the free love movement of the 60s which was also the era when different birth control methods were being created.
